Taxes and registration for cam models

Updated 26 September 2026

This is general information, not tax or legal advice. Rules differ per country and depend on your personal situation. Talk to an accountant or tax adviser, preferably one who’s familiar with self-employed or online-platform income.

The basics that apply almost everywhere

  • Cam income is usually taxable. Platforms pay you as an independent contractor, not an employee, so tax is typically not withheld for you.
  • You’re often considered self-employed. Depending on your country and how much you earn, you may need to register as a sole trader or self-employed person.
  • Platforms may report your earnings. Platforms operating in the EU report seller income to tax authorities under the DAC7 rules. BongaModels, for example, explains it reports earnings of EU-resident models (without describing the nature of your work) and asks for your tax identification number.
  • Other taxes may apply, such as VAT/sales tax or social security contributions, depending on your country and turnover.
  • Expenses may be deductible: equipment, lighting, software, a share of internet costs. Keep receipts.

Keep good records from day one

  • Monthly statements from every platform.
  • Every payout confirmation (platform, e-wallet and bank).
  • Currency conversion records if you’re paid in dollars but live in a euro or pound country.
  • Receipts for equipment, software and other costs.
  • A simple spreadsheet: date, platform, gross earnings, fees, net received.

Privacy when registering

Some business registers are public. In some countries you can register under a neutral description and trading name, or request that your home address is not shown publicly. Ask your local registration office what’s possible before you register.
